By making a booking or hiring equipment with Kune Bikes & Shuttles, you agree to the following terms and conditions. Please read them before confirming your booking.


1. Bookings and Reservations

1.1 All shuttle and bike hire bookings must be made in advance. Walk-ins are accepted subject to availability, but we strongly recommend booking ahead — especially on weekends and during peak season.

1.2 Bookings are confirmed only once full payment has been received and a booking confirmation email has been issued with a reference number.

1.3 Shuttle departures run to a fixed schedule. It is your responsibility to be at the departure point on time. We will not wait for late arrivals beyond 10 minutes of the scheduled departure time. No refund is issued for missed departures.

1.4 Minimum group sizes apply to certain trails:

  • Old Coach Road: minimum 2 people. Solo riders are charged a $40 flat minimum.
  • Mountain Road: minimum 3 people.
  • Bridge to Nowhere: minimum 3 people. Solo and duo riders may be added to existing group departures — contact us to check availability.

1.5 Kune Bikes & Shuttles reserves the right to combine bookings from separate parties on the same shuttle where capacity allows.


2. Payment

2.1 All prices are in New Zealand dollars (NZD) and include GST.

2.2 Full payment is required at the time of booking to confirm your reservation.

2.3 Payment is accepted by credit card, debit card, Google Pay, or Apple Pay via our secure online booking system (powered by Stripe). We do not store card details.

2.4 Prices are subject to change without notice. The price displayed at the time of booking is the price you pay.


3. Cancellations and Refunds

3.1 Cancellation by you:

  • Cancel 48 hours or more before your booking: full refund.
  • Cancel 24–48 hours before your booking: 50% refund.
  • Cancel less than 24 hours before your booking, or no-show: no refund.

3.2 To cancel, email info@kuneshuttles.co.nz or call 022 583 1292 with your booking reference number. Refunds are processed within 5–10 working days to your original payment method.

3.3 Cancellation by Kune Bikes & Shuttles: We reserve the right to cancel any booking due to unsafe weather or trail conditions, insufficient numbers, mechanical issues, or events outside our control. In these cases, you will receive a full refund or the option to reschedule. We will notify you as early as possible.

3.4 We do not offer refunds for changes in personal circumstances, injury, or failure to meet the fitness or equipment requirements listed at the time of booking.


4. Shuttle Services

4.1 Shuttle services operate during our published schedules. Schedules are subject to change during off-peak periods, public holidays, and the off season (May–June, when we are closed).

4.2 Passengers must be ready at the designated pickup point at least 5 minutes before the scheduled departure.

4.3 All passengers ride in our vehicles at their own risk. Kune Bikes & Shuttles carries passenger liability insurance as required by New Zealand law.

4.4 Bikes and equipment are transported in our trailers. Kune Bikes & Shuttles takes reasonable care in loading and securing equipment but accepts no liability for minor scratches or damage that may occur during transit. Please secure any loose components (lights, computers, bags) before handing your bike over.

4.5 The Mountain Road shuttle operates for bikers and walkers only. This shuttle does not operate during winter or for ski/snowboard access to Tūroa.

4.6 For the Bridge to Nowhere, the return jet boat leg is operated by Whanganui River Adventures. Their own terms and conditions apply to that portion of the journey. We coordinate the jet boat as part of our package but are not responsible for delays or cancellations on their side.


5. Bike Hire

5.1 Hire periods:

  • Half day: up to 4 hours from time of pickup.
  • Full day: up to shop close (6pm).
  • Bikes must be returned by the agreed time. Late returns may incur an additional charge at the prevailing daily rate.

5.2 Helmets are included with all bike hire. Wearing a helmet is mandatory. You are required to wear the provided helmet for the duration of your ride.

5.3 You must be physically capable of safely riding a mountain bike before hiring. If you are unsure, ask our staff — we will help you find a suitable trail and bike.

5.4 All bikes are checked before hire. You are responsible for checking the bike at the time of pickup and notifying us of any pre-existing damage before you leave. Unreported damage may be charged on return.

5.5 Damage and loss: You are responsible for the bike from the time of pickup to the time of return. In the event of damage beyond normal wear, theft, or loss, you will be charged the cost of repair or replacement at current market rates. We recommend checking your travel insurance for relevant coverage.

5.6 Bikes must not be used on sealed roads at speed, jumped aggressively beyond their intended use, ridden in conditions that risk damage (e.g. extreme mud or rock gardens outside their trail rating), or lent to any other person not named on the hire agreement.

5.7 E-bikes must be returned with the provided charger. Lost or damaged chargers will be charged at replacement cost.

5.8 Kids seats (child seats and Shotgun handlebar seats) are available as an add-on. The adult hirer is responsible for the safe fitting and use of any child seat.


6. Safety and Fitness Requirements

6.1 Mountain biking involves inherent risk. You participate at your own risk. It is your responsibility to ride within your ability and to follow trail rules, DOC guidelines, and any briefing instructions provided by our staff.

6.2 A full briefing is provided before every shuttle departure. Attendance is mandatory. If you arrive after the briefing, we will provide a condensed version — but please arrive on time.

6.3 You must be in adequate physical health to complete your chosen trail. If you have a medical condition that may affect your ability to ride safely, please consult your doctor before booking and disclose relevant information to our staff.

6.4 We reserve the right to refuse service or turn back any rider we believe is not capable of safely completing the trail, is impaired by alcohol or drugs, or presents a safety risk to themselves or others. No refund will be issued in these circumstances.

6.5 Minimum age for bike hire: 5 years (kids bikes). Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times on trail.


7. Remote Trail Requirements (Bridge to Nowhere / Mangapurua)

7.1 The Bridge to Nowhere (Mangapurua Track) is a remote backcountry trail with no easy exit. A PLB (Personal Locator Beacon) and live GPS SPOT tracker are provided for every group and must be carried on trail.

7.2 You are required to carry the following on this trail: your own puncture repair kit, chain breaker, packed lunch, minimum 1.5L water, a basic medical/first aid kit, and an appropriate extra layer.

7.3 Your bike must be a well-maintained, modern mountain bike with good tread. No city bikes, rigid forks, or poorly maintained bikes. E-bikes are welcome on this trail.

7.4 The jet boat exit from Mangapurua Landing is non-negotiable — there is no road exit. If you cannot complete the trail, contact us immediately via the provided PLB or SPOT device.

7.5 Trail conditions can change rapidly due to weather. The track is graded Grade 3 in dry conditions and Grade 4 or worse when wet. We will advise at the time of briefing.


8. Trail Conditions and Weather

8.1 Trail conditions change frequently. We provide current condition information at the time of booking and at your pre-ride briefing, but conditions between departure and your location on trail may differ.

8.2 Kune Bikes & Shuttles does not guarantee that trails will be open or rideable on your booking date. In the event of trail closure by DOC, severe weather, or safety concerns, we will offer a full refund or a reschedule at no extra cost.

8.3 The Mountain Road can have ice, snow, or adverse conditions outside of summer months. We will not run the Mountain Road shuttle in conditions we consider unsafe. This decision is at our sole discretion.

8.4 Check current trail conditions at /conditions on our website before your ride. Trailforks and DOC alerts are updated regularly.


9. Liability

9.1 To the fullest extent permitted by New Zealand law, Kune Bikes & Shuttles, its owners, staff, and contractors are not liable for:

  • Personal injury, illness, or death arising from participation in any activity.
  • Loss, theft, or damage to personal property.
  • Changes to trail conditions, closures, or delays outside our control.
  • Consequential losses including travel costs, accommodation, or other expenses.

9.2 Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or Fair Trading Act 1986.

9.3 You acknowledge that outdoor adventure activities carry inherent risks and that you accept those risks by participating.


10. Privacy

10.1 We collect your name, contact details, and booking information for the purpose of managing your reservation and communicating with you about your booking.

10.2 We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

10.3 Payment card data is handled entirely by Stripe and is never stored by Kune Bikes & Shuttles.

10.4 You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting info@kuneshuttles.co.nz.


11. Changes to These Terms

11.1 We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always available at kuneshuttles.co.nz/terms. The version in effect at the time of your booking applies to that booking.


12. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any dispute will be subject to the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
