Mountains to Sea

It starts at the volcano and ends at the sea. Ngā Ara Tūhono — the Mountains to Sea trail — connects Mt Ruapehu to the Tasman coast via the Whanganui River through 4–6 days that barely touch a sealed road.

The full journey: Te Hangāruru and the Old Coach Road out of Ohakune, the Mangapurua Valley to the Bridge to Nowhere, a jet boat down the Whanganui, then the river road and coastal ride into Whanganui city and out to the Heads. 217–231km, Grade 2–4, and one of the great multi-day rides anywhere.

Kune runs the Tongariro leg — everything from Ohakune: Te Hangāruru, Old Coach Road, Mangapurua, with PLB and GPS on the remote sections, the jet boat coordinated, and every shuttle handled. Full multi-day tours coming soon under the Kune name.
